FAQ

Carbon claims, explained clearly.

Straight answers on carbon neutral events, offsetting, certificates, pricing, timing and how Event Carbon can support business events, hospitality venues and private celebrations.

Is this just carbon offsetting?

No. Event Carbon starts with the event footprint first.

Offsetting or carbon balancing can be part of the final route where selected, but the value sits in understanding what the event has emitted, what data has been used, what assumptions have been made and what can be stated with confidence.

This keeps offsetting in context, rather than presenting carbon credits as a shortcut or last-minute label.

If we want to offset our event, what does that involve?

Offsetting an event usually means calculating the event footprint, then purchasing and retiring verified carbon credits to balance the emissions selected within the event boundary.

For example, if an event footprint is calculated at 10 tCO₂e, the organiser may choose to purchase and retire 10 tCO₂e of verified carbon credits.

Event Carbon can support this by defining the event boundary, calculating the footprint, shaping the carbon route and documenting the evidence behind the final statement.

What is the difference between carbon offsetting and carbon neutrality?

Carbon offsetting is the process of balancing a measured amount of emissions, usually by purchasing and retiring verified carbon credits.

Carbon neutrality is the intended outcome where an assessed footprint has been balanced with enough verified credits, within a defined scope and with the assumptions documented.

In practice, offsetting is part of the route. Carbon neutrality is the overall event position supported by the assessment, credits and evidence.

Event Carbon provides the structure for that process, aligning the assessment, carbon route and final wording with the evidence behind the event.

Can we say our event is carbon neutral?

A carbon neutral event statement can be supported where the event footprint has been assessed, the scope and assumptions have been documented, and enough verified credits have been retired to balance the remaining emissions.

The exact wording depends on the assessment level and evidence available. A lighter assessment may support a simpler balanced-footprint statement, while a higher-evidence assessment may be more suitable for public-facing, sponsor or business communication.

Event Carbon shapes the final wording so the statement reflects the work completed and the evidence behind it.

How is this different from donating to positive environmental projects?

Donations to positive environmental projects can support useful work, but they are not usually linked to a measured event footprint.

Event Carbon starts with the event itself. The footprint is assessed first, then any verified credits or project contributions are connected back to the event record and reflected in the final wording.

That means the impact is documented in relation to the event, rather than treated as a separate donation.

What does Event Carbon measure?

Event Carbon can assess emissions connected to the event, such as guest and team travel, venue energy, catering, accommodation, event materials, supplier activity, logistics and waste.

The exact scope depends on the event, selected assessment level and how the final carbon record will be used.

How much work is involved for us?

You do not need to have all event data, supplier details or guest travel information ready before getting in touch.

Event Carbon starts with a short call and Event Snapshot to understand what information is already available, what may need to be requested and where assumptions may be needed. The work required from the organiser depends on the assessment level and how much event information is already held by the venue, suppliers or planning team.

What if some data is missing?

Missing information may limit the level of confidence, detail and wording that can be supported.

Where data is unavailable, Event Carbon works to limit assumptions where possible, uses appropriate estimates where needed and documents the basis clearly. The value is in knowing how to work with real-world event data without presenting estimates as exact figures.

Is it too late to assess our event?

Not necessarily. Event Carbon can support both pre-event and post-event assessments, depending on the information available and the level of evidence required.

For the strongest process, it is best to get in touch 4–8 weeks before the event. This gives time for the initial call, Event Snapshot, data request, footprint assessment, carbon route review and final report or certificate preparation.

The final timeline also depends on how quickly event information can be gathered and shared, especially where details sit with venues, suppliers, planners or travel providers.

Shorter timeframes may still be possible where the event has fewer emission sources, key information is already available, or the required output is more limited.

Post-event assessments can also be completed where enough information is still available, such as guest numbers, venue details, catering, travel patterns, accommodation, supplier information or planning records. The final record will reflect the information available and any assumptions used.

Do you support carbon credits after the footprint is calculated?

Yes. After the event footprint has been assessed, Event Carbon can shape the carbon route.

This may include reduction opportunities, verified carbon credits, project contributions or a combination of options, depending on the event, budget, evidence level and communication needs.

Where verified credits are selected, Event Carbon can advise on the quantity required, project type and evidence needed. Where credits are purchased and retired, the final record can include the credit quantity, project details and retirement evidence where applicable.

Event Carbon does not directly control venue operations, supplier choices, guest travel or event logistics, but the assessment can identify where emissions sit and where reduction opportunities may exist.

The aim is to make the response to the footprint clear and documented, so the final report, certificate and communication wording reflect what has actually been selected.

What does the certificate actually look like?

The certificate is designed to be shared, displayed or kept.

It can include the event name, date, assessed footprint, carbon balance statement and selected carbon route, depending on the package and evidence available.

A real example certificate is shown on the website, so you can see the style and level of detail before enquiring.

The wording is prepared to reflect the agreed scope, calculation result and supporting evidence, rather than making a generic carbon neutral claim.

Event Carbon can also support wording for guest communications, websites, emails, social posts or venue materials where this is included in the package.

How much does it cost?

Event Carbon packages start from $495 AUD. Carbon gifts and contributions start from $125 AUD. Prices are shown in AUD for Australia-based enquiries and proposals.

Carbon credits are charged separately at cost, based on the agreed footprint and selected carbon route.

After the event scope has been reviewed, your proposal will set out the recommended package, expected evidence level, included outputs and any selected carbon route, so the overall budget is clear before work begins.
